Sandra Albukrek is a painter, filmmaker and scenographer born in Istanbul and graduated in Paris from les Arts-Décoratifs (ENSAD). With her poetic touch, she masterfully intertwines various artistic mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpting, writing, bookmaking, and the performance arts. Her artistic journey took a more intimate expression after collaborating with Pina Bausch.
Albukrek’s work is a captivating visual dialogue, almost a philosophical conversation revealed by symbolic and surrealist undertones. Her vibrant palette becomes a language forming a curiosity cabinet of magical objects and dreamlike bestiaries. Creator with no limit, the artist decides to interweave her visual artwork with classical music which has been deeply part of her universe since her childhood.
In 2018, she introduced a groundbreaking new concept, Art & Music: animated painting films synchronized with live classical music performances. Both producer, artistic director, and performer of her highly personal creations, the artist has performed her work at numerous festivals alongside musicians such as Martha Argerich, Nelson Goerner, Kai Schumacher, Ivry Gitlis, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Alexandre Kantorow, Lucas Debargue, Martin Fröst, Brendan Kane, Daniel Hope, Renaud Capuçon and Gautier Capuçon.
Her artistic vision culminated in a poetic masterpiece “Le Carnaval des Animaux” imagined for the Verbier Festival’s 30th anniversary Gala concert, in 2023. Sandra Albukrek has unveiled a dreamlike animated film rhythmically and ingeniously built with over two hundred original paintings and a scenario full of enchantment and humor.
